Sam Dancey

I was born and raised in Central Alberta, along the border of Treaty 6 and Treaty 7 territory, and now live inᐊᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton).

Academics

I have a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Cellular and Molecular Biology from MacEwan University, where conducted research on the nuclear localization sequence of Flowering Locus C (FLC), a transcription factor in Arabidopsis thaliana (Read more). While at MacEwan, I also participated in research with Dr. Melissa Hills on Universal Design for Learning in the biology lab (Read more).

Currently, I am working on a Master of Arts in Sociology at the University of Alberta. My research focuses on how Western and Indigenous Sciences work together, specifically in the context of water and climate change research from the perspective of a non-Indigenous scientist. I am a member of the Blue Sky Research Lab, led by Dr. Paulina Johnson.

Why This Website?

Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I’ve been able to hold a camera. I have no formal training, just taking thousands of photos and figuring out what works. As a natural consequence, I have a lot of photos and want to share them with people in my life.

This website serves as a digital archive for myself personally and professionally, as well as a way to share what I’m doing with my family (without social media).
